Game engine change was a gamechanger
My team didn't really benefit from the engine change, but regardless of that I am very happy that it happened. As a manager you have to manage the experience level of your riders, but this had gone a bit too far. The feature was exploited. No cheating, but it did change the game drastically. So, tweaking the engine a bit was really necessary imho. I knew that my team would suffer, because I didn't have any oldies. I kept my team always young. I could have coped with changing game conditions, but I didn't really want to at that point.
I had been around in the top div for quite some time. Top div is fun, but if you ride the same races/tours over and over again it is getting boring. For that purpose I had reshuffled my team several times. Going for cobbles was very entertaining for example. As a sprint team it is also fun to explore the hills and the mountains more. When the game engine was tweaked I seized the opportunity to drop down with my young team and explore the lower divisions. There are many tours I never raced before.
OCM game principles
In the remainder of this PR I will lay out some of my own game principles. I am also interested in your views on OCM game play. So please share them as well in a PR or the thread I will create on the forum.
- I like to train my own riders/talents as much as possible. In the 4 years that I have been around I have already completed training of 19 riders. I have had my training luck over the years (Gerrits/Untereiner/Tshiela) and recently I am a bit unlucky with my trainees
- I will never buy success. It is quite easy to buy a top captain and spend over half a million of transfer money on him. I don't see really the challenge in that
- I don't want to spend a lot of money on talents. I will train 200+ and 210+ talents and sometimes even 190+ riders with good sidestats. With the right support/management you can also win with a sub-top captain. Look at Team AEK and Nefal for example
- For each captain worthy rider there's a kind of goal. When that goal is achieved the rider is sold. So, if I would have the new Montelbano I would probably sell him as soon as Essex, Cymru and Montelbano tour are won. I have a lot of respect for managers who manage to win the same tour multiple times with the same rider, but that is not really my style. I don't want to be a one trick pony. I rather move on to another challenge
- In the end I would like to have tried all the branches, except TT. I really hate TT. For some time I had a really TQ oriented team, which was fun. I used a 2 captain strategy in races with a high TQ demand. What I haven't tried yet: DH.
- Although I like to splash a lot of money in trainings projects, it is important to spend your money wisely in this game. Perhaps economy is the most important part of the game. Starting players have a big gap to bridge. It is important to not over pay for riders on the market and sell your own riders for a decent price. The longer you are around, the easier it gets, as long as you keep your riders in shape.
- Kind of obvious: It is nice to win jerseys and trophies. And also the achievements are a very good addition to this great game
- I don't care much about ranking. I respect the top managers a lot, but I think I have to make too many adjustments to my way of playing to get to the top ranks. Top 10 I have been for quite some time, but the top ranks require another way of approaching this great game.
Please share also your views on OCM game play. :)

my goals now are to train my own riders (scouted and youth academy) and train only riders from ASEAN member states ( preferably Vietnamese )
Great PR Lamme. This is what makes OCM a great game, so many different goals to choose from. I love the new additions with the achievements, especially those which are difficult to achieve.
training rider #32 now...
Great idea!
I was always trying to climb the ranking as high as possible, while loving to participating in tours. During the last months I thought about the game and my goals a bit and realised that I actually care more about jerseys, trophies and achievments. Since I have a good team I will try to achieve as much as possible in Division 1 and after that I may try out another part of OCM...

@Simon: Compared to you I am quite pragmatic. Any idea how many riders you trained already? It is nice to hold on to your own riders. The first rider I trained, I got back before retirement. On my current team only Lukaszewicz I kept throughout his whole career as a WB. It must be tough to rely solely on the talent feature and on scouting.
Very interesting Lamme! My OCM playing style: dont buy riders from other teams, scout - or use talent feature - and train (100% of my team is self trained) and try to do as good as possible with those guys. Ideally would like each of them to have at least 1 result. Also, when I invest in a rider I dont want to sell him - so he has a place in the team till he retires :-)
Interesting read. Certainly one of the goods - to me - about this game is that not everyone has the same goal. The fact that the game enables you to reach for different goals within the same frame is really nice. Seeing this put to work as in this PR is really cool. :)
Very nice read!
Good read. And no surprises :-D
